Ford v Ferrari (2019)
Ford vs Ferrari is among the most loved movies by motorheads and the general audience. The James Mangold movie featured two of the best actors of the 21st century, Christian Bale and Matt Damon. It's a racing drama based on the true story of Carroll Shelby's mission to engineer a car capable of beating Ferrari at Le Mans. The raw sounds, amazing visuals, powerful storytelling, and amazing actors make it one of my favorites to watch on this list. It got two Academy Awards, one for best film editing and another for best sound editing.
The Martian (2015)
In the 21st century, Ridley Scott is synonymous with blockbuster science fiction, period drama, and epic storytelling. The Martian is a story of an astronaut stranded alone on Mars after his crew presumes him dead. With Chiwetel Ejiofor, Jessica Chastain, Michael Peña, Sebastian Stan, and others, it is a perfect blend of hard science and genuine humor. However, Matt Damon is the protagonist and has a massive screen time, which carries the whole movie. His performance as Mark Watney earned him an Academy Award Nomination for Best Actor.
Interstellar (2014)
People often talk about Matthew McConaughey and Jessica Chastain's emotional scene but forget how good the cast for Interstellar was. Anne Hathaway, Timothée Chalamet, Michael Caine, Casey Affleck, and John Lithgow, and so many amazing actors. The biggest surprise was Matt Damon as Dr. Mann, whose performance reflected versatility and shifted the tone and storyline of the movie. Interestingly, he hardly had 5 to 10 minutes of screen time, but it was impactful. However, it was the overall performance of the cast and amazing writing by Christopher and Jonathan Nolan that make Interstellar a fan favorite.

Contagion (2011)
Contagion was released in 2011 and was one of the most-talked-about movies during the pandemic era. The Steven Soderbergh thriller showed the rapid spread of a deadly virus and the scientists racing to contain it. The movie shows Damon as a husband who loses his wife to the contagious virus. Jude Law, Kate Winslet, Gwyneth Paltrow, Lawrence Fishburne, Bryan Cranston, and Marion Cotillard were some of the key actors in the movie, making it worth watching. However, it was Damon's role as a grieving father that gives the movie an emotional narrative.
The Departed (2006)
You can't skip Martin Scorsese when talking about cinema. Also, the movie had an impactful star cast featuring Jack Nicholson, Vera Farmiga, Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Wahlberg, and many others. The movie shows Damon and DiCaprio playing the roles of Massachusetts state troopers. The film explores themes like loyalty, identity, and betrayal, which makes it a perfect crime thriller movie to watch. The Departed won Best Picture at the Academy Awards and is still considered one of the most iconic and critically acclaimed works of Scorsese.
Ocean's Eleven (2001)
If you love Crime-Comedy, Ocean's Eleven by Steven Soderbergh is still one of the best movies starring Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Bernie Mac, Andy Garcia, and others. While George Clooney is playing the role of Danny Ocean, Damon portrays Linus Caldwell, who is a young and eager member of Danny Ocean's gang. The movie has sharp comic timing, a decent storyline, and is fun to watch. It was commercially successful, which led to multiple sequels, featuring a similar cast.

The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999)
You may disagree, but the 1980s to 1990s were the best time for cinema, where there used to be unique stories, powerful music, plot twists, and a lot. The Talented Mr. Ripley by Anthony Minghella is something you can watch if you like psychological, crime-thrillers. Damon plays the role of Tom Ripley, who is a con artist. The movie lets Damon explore darker territories than his other roles. So, it has themes of deep insecurity and violence, masked by a character's charm. With Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cate Blanchett and Jack Davenport, it's a good movie to watch on the weekend.
Saving Private Ryan (1998)
Saving Private Ryan is still considered the "Greatest of All Time" war movie ever created. The Steven Spielberg film shows World War II and features Damon in a smaller but pivotal role. While his screen time was limited, it was impactful enough to make him memorable. Apart from Matt Damon, the 1998 movie had Tom Hanks, Vin Diesel, Edward Burns, and Tom Sizemore in important roles. Since it's a war movie, visual discretion is advised because of the bloodshed and action scenes, especially the film's opening Omaha Beach sequence.

With Danny DeVito, Claire Danes, Johnny Whitworth, and some other wonderful actors, the movie might be slightly slow, but a masterpiece to watch. It covers the deep themes of justice and morality.

Good Will Hunting (1997)
The Gus Van Sant film, Good Will Hunting (1997), is still one of the most loved movies for its exceptional storytelling, amazing star cast, and its two Academy Awards. This is the film that made Damon a global star, and it is one of his personal favorite works. He co-wrote the script with Ben Affleck, which earned the Best Original Screenplay in Academy Awards. The story revolves around a Janitor at MIT with an extraordinary gift for Mathematics. However, it was not only Ben Affleck or Matt Damon, but Robin Williams' finest dramatic performances that made it a successful movie.
