Every once in a while, a fresh headline is warning that artificial intelligence is coming for entry-level jobs, and it's somewhat true. Whether you are a student or a parent, the question is the same: "Is it worth infusing thousands or millions of dollars in a college degree?" The answer is "It depends". Not every major is doing great, but there can be some degrees which might give you an edge over others.

AI has not erased the need for higher education, but raised the bar for what a degree needs to deliver to become valuable. Interestingly, none of the strongest majors on this list have "AI" in the title, as a specific technology can not fully replace accountability, technical depth, physical presence or human interaction. AI can undoubtedly support most professions, but if you have experience, empathy, technical acumen and expertise, you may always have better options in life.

What you need to do is stop chasing the newest trends or an AI-branded degree. Instead, build real depth in a field that still needs human judgment, then learn how AI fits into that field. For instance, CS grads can specialize in health tech, nursing students can add informatics, and an economics major can learn machine learning. The bitter truth is the job market can be fluctuating, and there is no job guarantee in any major. However, careers should be based on what you want for decades in your life, not just a few years.
