Is Main Character Energy Ruining Your Real Relationships
Main character energy builds personal confidence but it damages relationships if it turns into self-centeredness.

The sudden rise of “main character energy” has encouraged millions of people to embrace confidence and take control of their own life stories. While acting like the hero of your own story can of course help in boosting self-confidence, but the pressure to constantly perform perfectly, often leads to emotional burnout and creation of fake relationships.

What Is Main Character Energy?

The "main character energy" is a recent internet trend that means viewing yourself as the lead person in your own life. It encourages you to step into the limelight, feel proud of who you are and focus on what pleases you without worrying about what others think.

The Positive Side

The mindset of seeing yourself as a main character is definitely great for self-care as it helps you to believe in your own worth and talents. You are able and confident enough to make bold decisions and chase your ambitions. Nevertheless, you also appreciate the little and everyday moments of life to help you in the healing process and come out of the trauma you had experienced previously.

The Negative Side/Hidden Costs

As this trend is currently viral, people learned that trying to be the “main character” all the time without a pause has definitely a negative impact on your life. Let's discuss about the hidden cost nobody wants to listen:

Constant Pressure To Perform Better

Once you start with the mindset of main character energy, you might feel like everyday has to be perfectly planned and exciting. Life without a lesson, feels like a dull journey that carries no meaning and at some point of time you may be tired out of it. This also results in narrative fatigue and deep burnout.

Treating Others Like Side Characters

Finding A Healthy Balance

In order to find a healthy balance, you don't need to give up on your self-confidence to ignore the costs of these trends. You are very much allowed to embrace your own self-worth while remembering that “every great movie has a great cast.”

The real main character is that person who can use their own confidence to advocate for people in highlighting their talents and bring people into the spotlight with you. Start talking to your friends and your loved ones, share with them about the struggled journey you had and be okay with being messy sometimes. Instead of trying to capture the "perfect little moments" of your life for social media, enjoy those tiny moments by yourself and know that life is beautiful when enjoyed with your loved ones and not artificially. Lastly, it's never wrong to present yourself in the spotlight, but never forget that everyone else is the main character as well in their own life, too. So, try to share the spotlight with others as well with the same care and respect that you deserve from them.
