Just two more wins, and the New York Knicks would have the Larry O'Brien Championship Trophy in their cabinet after 53 years. Despite a power-packed performance, San Antonio lost another game at their home stadium, stretching the Knicks' postseason winning streak to 13 consecutive games. The 105-104 victory for the Knicks over the Spurs gave them a 2-0 edge in an already competitive NBA Finals.
The night started tough for the Knicks as the Spurs led the first quarter 34-25. NYK star Jalen Brunson struggled badly throughout the night, finishing with just 20 points on a difficult 7-of-25 from the field. However, he delivered a "Captain Clutch" performance in the final seconds of the game. Overall, a nail-biting finish by the Knicks, and every player contributed. The hero of the night was none other than Karl-Anthony Towns, who led the scorecard with 21 points and 13 rebounds.

Spurs Fire, Knicks Fight Back
A defeat at home ground is often disappointing. Spurs were already in a mode of revenge, and the first quarter's statistics are proof of it. Spurs led the first 12 minutes, 34-25. Their key performers throughout the game were De'Aaron Fox, who bounced back from a 7-point Game 1 to score 20 points, and Stephon Castle, who added 14. Unfortunately, the French star Victor Wembanyama still couldn't find his rhythm initially. However, the Spurs looked strong in the first two quarters.
Every quarter was a close encounter, and both teams were unstoppable. Knicks did not bow down or panic at any moment. It was OG Anunoby's 17-point effort and a two-handed dunk over Wembanyama, Mikal Bridges' 20 points on 4-of-6 from three, and the agility of Karl-Anthony Towns which provided the physical anchor the Spurs could not contain. The first half ended with the Knicks turning around the game by leading 56-52.

Knicks in Control, Spurs Come Roaring Back
The third quarter began with the Knicks driving the game away from the home team. A quick burst of 8-2 extended the Knicks' advantage to double digits, with Karl-Anthony Towns becoming a nightmare for the Spurs. New York's defense suffocated Wembanyama's movements through extended stretches, frustrating him and limiting his impact. With an 84-75 lead, the Knicks entered the fourth quarter comfortably.
Spurs are a team of surprises. They were down 97-83 midway through the fourth quarter. Their quick-fire passes and fast dribbling led them to equalize the scores with less than three minutes to spare. Finally, Wembanyama exploded with an and-one layup off a Dylan Harper pass that gave the Spurs a 104-102 lead with 57 seconds to spare. However, the lead didn't last long. Brunson first tied the game at 104 with a fallaway elbow jumper, then after Wembanyama threw the ball off Castle's back with 9.5 seconds left, Brunson was fouled and hit the go-ahead free throw to seal the 105-104 win.

NBA Finals Game 3: Madison Square Garden Awaits
For the first time in 27 years, Madison Square Garden is hosting an NBA Finals Game. If you feel Spurs fans are loud, wait until you hear the roars of New Yorkers. The electrifying atmosphere can even turn a non-basketball fan into a Knicks supporter. With a home record of 30 wins and 11 losses, the New York Knicks are already the favorites. Besides, the pressure has now shifted to the San Antonio Spurs.
Karl-Anthony Towns would enter Game 3 as the key frontrunner for the Finals MVP award. His 21-point, 13-rebound performance built on an equally dominant Game 1 showing, and his physical defense on Wembanyama has kept the Spurs' star off balance throughout the series. All he needs is to continue his run, and the Knicks will win their first championship since 1973.
As a Spurs fan, you don't want another sluggish start. Wembanyama is undoubtedly a great player. However, he gets into momentum after the first half, when the ship is almost sailed. If they manage to dominate in the first two quarters and defend aggressively in the last two, they might have better hopes on Monday, June 8.
