Just after a successful pilot in New Zealand, Spotify has officially launched 'prompted playlists' and a suite of advanced features for premium subscribers across the United States and Canada.

Prompted Playlists

The best feature in this rollout is a 'prompted playlist.' This advanced version allows users to use detailed, natural language to program the algorithm. You can give prompts to the AI such as, “Make a playlist of songs I saved in 2023 but haven't listened to lately,” or “Give me a 90- minute mix for a rainy Tuesday that feels like a 90s indie movie.” Then, the AI tracks your entire listening history, real-time pop culture trends and even a specific movie or TV show soundtracks. In short, users can set “rules” for these playlists, which allows them to refresh the playlists automatically.

Platinum Experience

Spotify has also expanded its lossless audio (Hi-Fi) capabilities. Under the new premium features, users in US and Canada can now toggle on un compressed 24-bit/44.1kHz FLAC audio. This move finally brings Spotify’s audio quality in line with competitors like Apple Music and Amazon Music, though it is tied to the higher- tier subscription plans.

Update In Subscription Charges

Starting from February 2026, Spotify is increasing the price of its individual premium plan in the USA to $12.99 per month.

Following these launches, Spotify is confident enough to bet that users are willing to subscribe to the premium features to get access to the tools that reduce “choice fatigue.” By shifting to an active, prompt-based assistant, they are redefining what it means to “just hit play.”
