Apple has launched a new version of its AirTag, a small tracking device designed to help users find lost items such as keys, bags, wallets, and luggage. The updated AirTag offers improved range, louder sound, and better tracking features while keeping the same design and price.
Improved Tracking Range with New Chip
The new AirTag is powered by Apple’s second-generation Ultra Wideband chip. This chip improves the Precision Finding feature, allowing users to locate their items from up to 50 percent farther away than before. Precision Finding shows the exact distance and direction to the AirTag when it is nearby.
Stronger Bluetooth Connectivity
Apple has also upgraded the Bluetooth performance of the AirTag. The improved Bluetooth range helps Apple devices detect the AirTag from a longer distance, even when Precision Finding is not active.
Louder Speaker for Easy Detection
The speaker inside the new AirTag is about 50 percent louder than the previous model. Apple has also added a new sound to make the AirTag easier to hear when it is hidden inside bags, under furniture, or in other hard-to-find places.
Precision Finding on Apple Watch
For the first time, users can use Precision Finding directly on Apple Watch. Apple Watch Series 9, Apple Watch Ultra 2, and newer models support this feature. Users can now locate their AirTag using their watch without needing to take out their iPhone.
Find My Network Support
The new AirTag continues to work with Apple’s Find My network. This network uses millions of Apple devices worldwide to help locate lost items. The system works securely and anonymously, and other users never see personal information.
Location Sharing with Family and Airlines
Apple has expanded the Share Item Location feature. This allows users to share an AirTag’s location with trusted family members and friends. The feature also supports airline partners, helping travelers recover delayed or misplaced luggage. Apple says more than 50 airlines now support this option.
Privacy and Safety Features
Apple has maintained strong privacy protections with the new AirTag. The device does not store location history. All data shared through the Find My network is end-to-end encrypted, meaning only the AirTag owner can access the location information.
Design and Environmental Efforts
The design of the AirTag remains unchanged. It works with all existing AirTag accessories, such as key rings and holders. Apple has also used recycled materials in the AirTag and its packaging to support its environmental goals.
Price and Availability
The new AirTag is priced the same as the previous model. A single AirTag costs $29, while a pack of four costs $99. Apple continues to offer free engraving when ordering online or through the Apple Store app. The new AirTag is available to order now and will be available in Apple Store locations soon.
