At 22, he is considered one of the best tennis players and has been consistently ranked in the top three tennis players for months. But how did a young boy from El Palmar become a huge star?
People may look at Alcaraz and think that he’s just lucky, but if luck were everything, effort, skill, and dedication would be meaningless in sports. Carlos Alcaraz has a bright future, and he is dominating the game with his raw power and fearless play. The young Spaniard already has claimed seven Grand Slam titles and will look to continue his winning run.
Back to the main story, is Alcaraz just another gifted player, or has he trained himself to become invincible? The 22-year-old boy has been playing Tennis at the elite level even before getting his driving license. But dominating a sport at such a young age is something beyond luck; it’s sheer hard work and persistence.

The beginning of a legendary story
On May 5, 2003, Carlos Alcaraz Garfia entered the world. His father, Carlos Alcaraz Sr also known as Carlos Alcaraz Gonzalez, is a former competitive tennis player who worked as a tennis academy director and coach at the Real Sociedad Club de Campo de Murcia. His mother, Virginia Garfia Escandon, worked as a sales assistant at IKEA.
Growing up in El Palmar, Murcia, he is the second of four boys in a tennis-obsessed family, and that inspired him to take up the sport. He has been swinging the racket since the age of four at his family club. At the age of seven, he got trained under Coach Santos, who spotted his talent early. And rest became history.
Alcaraz passion for Tennis was such that he used to skip school events for practice and moved to Juan Carlos Ferrero academy at 15, molding him into a top-level tennis player. Fast forward to 2022, he defeated Casper Ruud in the US Open finals and became the youngest man in the Open Era to win a major title and the youngest-ever world No. 1 in ATP history.

Carlos Alcaraz big breakthrough
Even though he had been playing professionally since 2018, his fame exploded in 2021, when he got into the top 100 at age 18. The same year, he won his first ATP tour title in July at the Croatia Open Umag by defeating Richard Gasquet in straight sets in the finals. As a result, he became the youngest Spanish champion in 17 years, and the youngest tour champion since 2008.
Later in 2022, he defeated his idols, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, at the 2022 Madrid Open, and was the youngest to do so on clay. As of now, Alcaraz has won five and lost five times against Novak Djokovic and defeated Nadal in one of their three meetings. It shows how powerful this young guy is.
Eventually, winning the first Grand Slam in 2022 at 19 and climbing to the top of the world rankings is still considered his pivoting moment. Moving forward, he has been consistent ever since. Till now, he has played 357 matches and has come victorious in 292 matches, making his winning percentage 80%, which can be intimidating for any of his competitors. By 2023, he added Wimbledon by defeating Djokovic in a classic final.

What major titles has Alcaraz achieved till now?
As of now, Carlos Alcaraz has won 26 ATP Tour-level singles titles, which include seven grand slams and masters titles as well. Whether it is Indian Wells, Miami Open, or Madrid Open, Alcaraz has everything under his belt and is the youngest Sunshine double winner. Though he got injured in 2024, he bounced back with French Open Glory over Zverev.
The Spaniard is on a winning spree and has won the US Open twice, first in 2022 and later in 2025. Then, he defeated Novak Djokovic in two consecutive Wimbledon finals in 2023 and 2024. Subsequently, he won the French Open in 2024 and 2025 by defeating Germany’s Zverev and Italy’s Sinner, respectively. His recent grand slam win was the Australian Open 2026, where he defeated Novak Djokovic once again, completing the career Grand Slam as the youngest player ever.
Standing 6 feet tall and 165 pounds, Alcaraz’s specialty is his booming forehand, explosive athleticism, and drop shots that keep opponents guessing. His aggression makes him one of the finest players of this decade, and he can play equally well on clay, grass, or hard courts. With $50 million+ in earnings, he's eyeing more records before turning 23.

When Carlos Alcaraz is not playing Tennis, he is cherishing golf with former tennis player Andy Murray and Spanish professional golfer Sergio Garcia to realign his mind, and like many of us, he is a die-hard soccer fan and supports Real Madrid. Apart from cooking his opponents, he loves making Spanish dishes like Tortilla or meat with potatoes. However, his go-to foods are pasta, fish, rice salads, pizza, hamburgers, and local Murcia kebabs. Interestingly, he avoids eating sweets.
In downtime, he takes 20-minute power naps for recovery, plays chess to enhance focus, and does patchwork puzzles with his brother. He also plays FIFA or Call of Duty video games, and hikes Spain’s trails. Apart from playing Tennis, all these activities fuel him and keep him balanced amidst demanding schedules.
