When looking closely at the all-time Olympic medal standings, no country comes closer to the United States. The U.S. alone has won 3,095 Olympic medals in Summer and Winter Olympics, followed by the Soviet Union, Great Britain, Germany, France, and China. However, the 2022 Winter Olympics were dominated by Norway, which clinched 37 medals, including 16 golds, 8 silvers, and 13 bronzes.

The United States won 25 medals at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China. They won 9 golds and 9 silvers, along with 7 bronze medals across Snowboarding, Figure Skating, Freestyle Skiing, Bobsleigh, and Speed Skating. Most of their gold medals were in Snowboarding, and they would love to leverage their abilities in Figure Skating and Freestyle Skiing as well.

The upcoming days will decide whether Team U.S. has improved or declined. The biggest challenge for American players would be Norway's dominance in the Winter Olympics. Norway has been among the top two teams in the Winter Olympics since 2014. However, with stars like Auston Matthews (Hockey), Alex Hall (Skiing), and Jordan Stolz (Speed Skating), the U.S.U.S. has a strong chance of dominating the events. Here are the players to watch out for:

Ryan Cochran-Siegle will be a delight to watch in Milano-Cortina. He is the only American man to have won a medal in Alpine Skiing at the 2022 Olympics. You'll be flabbergasted to see him perform in downhill and super-G races, where his speed and precise turns shine like anything. He comes from a family of famous skiers, and his mom has already won an Olympic gold and two junior world titles from Italy. The 33-year-old star is training hard for a podium finish and might repeat or create history.

Most American Hockey fans know the importance of Kendall Coyne Schofield to the U.S. team. She won Olympic gold and two silvers across three games. She was pivotal in leading the US to the 2025 World Title win over Canada. What makes her special is her super-fast skating up to 20mph, and brilliant playmaking. The 33-year-old veteran not only brings experience but also leadership and clutch goals that help the team stand out.

The elegant all-time scorer and the captain of the U.S. women's hockey team, Hilary Knight, can play the climactic role in the team. She was part of the gold medal team in the 2018 Winter Olympics, which ended the United States 20-year drought in Ice hockey. Apart from Olympic Gold, she has three silver medals in four games. Her speciality lies in challenging powerful shots and net-front play. After a successful run in PWHL, her goal-scoring ability and experience can take American Ice hockey to the next level.

Jordan Stolz (Speed Skating)

Jordan Stolz would be one of the key players to watch this year. The American Speed Skating Prodigy is known for being the youngest male world champion in history, and winning three gold medals (500m, 1000m, 1500m) at the 2023 World Single Distances Championships and again in 2024. He holds a World record in the 1,000 meters in January 2024 (1:05:37). The most remarkable thing about this guy is his explosive starts and endurance over distance. However, he has no Olympic medals yet, probably because it's his second Olympic event.

Alex Hall (Freestyle Skiing)

Will Alex Hall repeat the history in men's freestyle skiing? At the last Olympics, Alex won a gold medal in freestyle skiing slopestyle with a top score of 91.25. His huge spins, like left cork 1980, and creative grabs, with 12 X Games medals (half gold), two World Championship bronzes (2021, 2025), and two Crystal Globes, are what make him special. The 27-year-old is heading to his third games in Milano Cortina from February 16. Alex's bold style and recent World Cup form would be the deciding factor for Team USA's success.

The American Ice hockey center, Auston Matthews, will make his debut in men's hockey for Team USA. He's a three-time NHL goals king with Rookie of the Year, MVP awards, and All-Star spots for the Toronto Maple Leafs. The 28-year-old scorer can change any game with his deadly wrist shots and intense board battles, and has helped his team win Silver at the 2025 4 Nations Face-off. It would be a unique experience to watch him play for the national team from February 10.

Figure Skating is a team event in the Olympics, and the USA has one of the best pairs who have won over six national titles, three world golds, an Olympic team gold, and a Beijing bronze. Madison Chock and Evan Bates are spouses whose speciality lies in their chemistry, their smooth lifts, twizzles, and emotional programs. They have been doing it for over 14 years, and it would be their fourth Olympic appearance, surprising the world with their beautiful movements.
