From a teen heartthrob to a dramatic cinema powerhouse, Jacob Elordi has come a long way. After almost a decade-long career, Jacob has officially secured his first Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. The 28-year-old Aussie actor earned this nomination for his haunting, transformative performance as 'The Creature' in Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein.

While Sean Penn may have won the award, Elordi's performance received positive reviews from critics. And this nomination marks a turning point in his career, which began with viral rom-coms like The Kissing Booth but is rapidly evolving into a portfolio of complex, dark, and deeply psychological roles. Reports suggest that the role of "The Creature" was originally for Andrew Garfield, but it did not materialise due to scheduling conflicts. To give a mesmerising performance, Elordi famously studied the movements of his own dog, Layla, resulting in a performance which was both monstrous and profoundly human.

A Promise Kept on the Red Carpet

Accolades alone do not define an actor's ability or versatility. The 98th Academy Awards were a deeply personal moment for Elordi. Over a decade ago, a 15-year-old boy promised his mother that he would one day take her to the Oscars as his date. And, on March 15, 2026, that promise was fulfilled. Jacob Elordi walked the red carpet at the Dolby Theatre with his mom, Melissa Elordi, by his side. It shows us how familial support can help people conquer their dreams.

During interviews, Elordi talked about his father's suggestion of a "Plan B" career, to which he famously replied that the Oscars were his only plan. Despite his meteoric rise, Elordi stays grounded and is very close to his family. For a young actor like Jacob Elordi, being named alongside veterans like Sean Penn and Delroy Lindo is, in itself, a crowning achievement. He may not have won this time, but he is on the right track if he keeps signing good movies.

Elordi's journey is no accident. It is the result of risk calculation and working with a vision. His breakout moment came with Euphoria, where he starred alongside Sydney Sweeney, Zendaya, and Hunter Schafer. His career took a chilling turn as Elvis Presley in Priscilla, which received critical acclaim for his nuanced, restrained portrayal. Frankenstein was more about "uglying up" for the sake of the story, choosing grit over glamour, and fortunately, the strategy worked.

Apart from Oscar acknowledgement, he has also received other accolades, including Best Supporting Actor at the Critics' Choice Awards and the AACTA International Award. These wins signalled early on that the Academy would likely take notice of his work. By consistently choosing unique projects, Elordi is challenging audience perceptions and shedding the "pretty boy" label. As of now, he is viewed as one of the most versatile and magnetic leading men of this generation.

The Bright Horizon of 2026 and Beyond

The future is exceptionally bright for the newly minted Oscar nominee, as he knows how to balance major film projects and TV shows. While fans are waiting for the third season of Euphoria to witness him as volatile Nate Jacobs, Elordi is all set to star in Ridley Scott's post-apocalyptic thriller The Dog Stars. Besides, you might see him in the highly anticipated adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's Outer Dark directed by László Nemes.

Moreover, fans witnessed his collaboration with Emerald Fennell on the adaptation of Wuthering Heights, which premiered in theatres on February 13. He was seen in the movie alongside actors Margot Robbie and Alison Oliver. With such roles, Elordi is cementing his status as a literary leading man. Whether playing the role of a pretty boy, a monster, or a broken antagonist, Elordi's trajectory suggests that his first Oscar nomination is merely the beginning. Has Hollywood found its new vanguard? It is still too early to say anything, but the boy is clearly talented.
